Horses can encounter health issues at any time. Regular wellness care can often times prevent these issues. If problems do arise, the GEVS veterinarians, with expertise in equine health, can treat these either at home or at our hospital. Horse owners will be pleased to know that our hospital can provide the necessary care for everything their horse needs.
Vaccinations
We offer AAEP recommended core vaccines for all age groups. Additional “at-risk” vaccinations may also be recommended for horses that travel, are pregnant, or have an increased risk of exposure. Our team will help tailor a program suited for you and your horse based on individual needs. We will keep you up to date with reminders so you are always current.
Dental examinations
Annual dental examinations are recommended in all adult horses and may need to be more frequent as your horse ages. Young horses may have different needs for dental exams, to include removal of “caps” (baby teeth), wolf teeth, or malalignments. We are equipped with speculums and power floats to ensure the best dental experience possible.
Annual physical examinations
Although a physical examination on a normal horse may seem brief, it provides your veterinarian with information of the overall function of your horse’s body systems. For healthy adult horses, these examinations are often performed at the time of their annual vaccine boosters. We also recommend examinations for geriatric horses, foals, and mares prior to breeding.
Health papers
A certificate of veterinarian health inspection is required to cross state lines. The reason for this is to reduce the spread of infectious disease. We can provide 30 day as well as 6 month health permits depending on your need
Nutrition
Horses have different dietary requirements depending on their performance level, age, and metabolism. We offer nutrition consultations to help you better meet your horse’s dietary needs, whether they are working at peak performance level, young and still growing, or geriatric.
De-worming
We offer FEC (fecal egg count) testing to better assess what de-worming program each horse should follow based on the results.
Podiatry
GEVS believes that your farrier is an integral part of your horse’s team. We work closely with your farrier professional to ensure your horse’s feet are as healthy and balanced as possible. When dealing with lameness of the foot, we encourage the veterinarian/farrier team to work together to achieve the best solution possible.
